Galvanic is a microcurrent that is used to stimulate collagen elastin production, skin tightening and rejuvenation. It aids transepidermal penetration of active ingredients across the epidermal barrier using an electrical current.
Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant. It helps to prevent cell damage from free radicals, environmental stressors and even heavy metals. Small studies have also shown that can have a brightening effect on the skin, therefore helping to minimise pigmentation when applied topically. Glutathione is often heralded as a skin bleaching agent but there is no concrete evidence to show that it has a lightening effect when administered intravenously.
Glycerin is a naturally occurring compound found in plants and animals, (including us) and is an extremely versatile substance! It’s a humectant, meaning it has the ability to attract water to itself. This makes it fantastic at hydrating the skin as it draws water from the deeper layers of the skin to soften and maintain hydration levels. Glycerin is also widely used as it is antimicrobial, antiviral and non comedogenic so is suitable for all skin types. It can be sourced from vegetables or made synthetically.
Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid derived from sugar cane. It has the smallest molecule in comparison to other acids which means that it can quickly and effectively penetrate through the skin. It’s helpful with improving the appearance of acne skin and is often the ingredient of choice for those struggling with enlarged pores and looking for rejuvenation.
Green Coffee Extract
Green coffee extract is sourced from green coffee; coffee beans before they are roasted. They are extremely high in chlorogenic acid - a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from free radical damage from UV rays, pollutants and other environmental stressors. Coffee polyphenols have also been shown to increase circulation, reduce transepidermal water loss and improve hydration levels when regularly drank or eaten.
Green Tea Extract
Green tea extract is sourced from green tea. It is packed full of antioxidants and polyphenols that have protective qualities as well as anti-inflammatory powers. This makes green tea extract a wonderful ingredient to soothe and protect the skin from environmental stressors.
Growth factors are proteins that naturally occur in the body. Their job is to communicate messages across cells, instructing them to heal, grow and replicate. Growth factors are found in abundance in the body, but as we get older the level of growth factors decrease as so does the body's ability to use. This results in less collagen and elastin production, thinner skin and sagging. Topical growth factors have been proven to stimulate cell growth however, they are not without controversy. Some growth factors are sourced from a foetus, bone marrow, or even umbilical cords and whilst the ingredients do not contain any of these cells, merely the proteins they produce, this does bring their ethics into question. They can also be sourced from apples and barley that have been specifically engineered to produce a human growth hormone. Growth factors are a great ingredient in incorporate to reduce the appearance of fine lines, scarring, and enlarged pores.
